JEFFERSON COUNTY

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office

I have had great assistance from the personnel of Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in identifying and aging the patches in my collection.

Worn 2000-Current
Black Background: - Honors our colleagues who have given their lives in service to our community.
Gold lettering - Symbolizes the gold fever that brought prospectors and settlers to our area.
Barbed wire - Evokes memories of early ranches on our plains
Blue skies and cumulus clouds - The brilliant canopy of Colorado
Red Rocks - Dramatic rock formations found in he county
Mounted horseman and traditional five-point stars - Remind us of challenges faced by frontier lawmen. The horseman is wearing the dark green uniform of today's deputy sheriffs.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office:
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office was founded on November 7th, 1859 and survives today as one of Colorado's original law enforcement agencies, and the largest full-service sheriff's office in the state. The brassard, unveiled in 2000, sybolizes the western heritage of Jefferson County and its sheriff's office. It was re-created -- using the original brassard created in 1949 -- to mark the sheriff's office transition from the 20th to 21st Centuries. It was designed by our own Lt. Dan Gard and Sgt. Richard "J.J." Webb, longtime veterans of the sheriff's office. Design symbols on the brassard include:

I want to thank the Jefferson County Sheriff's office for contributing this patch into my personal collection. I also want to thank several deputies who have, on their own time, e-mailed me offering further assistance to my collection, including Amy V. of the Sheriff's Office for contributing the old style.

I would like to thank Dan, an officer with the Columbine Valley Police Department for contributing his current style patch along with the Colorado School of Mines patch.
